Hike Overview
Trailhead Directions
Don’t follow google maps for this one. It’ll take you on a wild goose chase literally into Leppy Hills.
Starting from the Peppermill Casino drive north on Florence Way. Cross under the I80 where the road name changes to Frontage Road. The road curves left immediately after crossing under the I-80 and starts heading west. Take the first right, about 0.25 miles from the I80. The first sign to Leppy Hills will be at this intersection. Drive another 0.4 miles and turn left at the next Leppy Hills sign. Follow this road to the trailhead parking area. There is a clean vault toilet at the trailhead.
Hike Details
Leppy Hills is separated into loops A, B and C. All 3 loops share the same trail out and back; however, each loop returns at different points depending on how far you’d like to hike.
0.2 miles from the trailhead the trail splits at a fork. Take the right fork. From here trail starts to ascend into Leppy Hills. A-loop is 1.0 miles. If you are looking for a short hike to stretch the legs, return to the trailhead via the first fork in the trail.
For B-loop continue on another 0.6 miles to the next fork in the trail. Along the way look for birds, lizards, and even snakes. In spring there may be cactus in bloom.Take the C-loop for the longest of the Leppy Hills loops. As you make the full loop check out the geology of the region while enjoying views of the surrounding landscape and Wendover.
Why is this hike easy/moderate?
Depending on the loop you choose, hiking Leppy Hills can be anywhere from easy to moderate. The trail is wide, hardpacked, and in excellent condition. In summer it can be quite hot and there is no shade along the trail so bring water and a hat.
