Hike Overview
Trailhead Directions
To find the trailhead enter East Canyon State Park through the North Entrance off of Hwy 66. This is the same entrance that accesses the Dixie Creek campground, marina, and picnic area. You’ll need to pay a fee or use your Utah State Parks Pass to enter.
The trailhead can be found between the yurts. As you walk between the yurts towards the creek, you’ll cross a small ditch that may be filled with water. When we hiked Lake View Trail in the spring there were rocks, logs, and a board to help cross without getting wet feet.
Hike Details
Once you head across the stream continue on the trail as it runs along the lake. The trail is really well defined and in great condition here.
The first part of the trail is heavily trafficked and you’ll see plenty of people fishing at the lake on this stretch of the trail.
As you continue on the trail you’ll reach a bench which is a great place to sit and view the lake. It’s amazingly serene to be here sitting, watching, relaxing, and listening to the sounds of the boats on the water. In hindsight I wish we’d packed a snack or lunch to enjoy while we were here.
If you want to continue on the trail from here it makes a loop coming back around the hill and down a set of switchbacks. You could start the loop by heading up these switchbacks, but I personally think doing the loop counterclockwise is a bit easier. Up higher, the trail gets a little more rugged as it’s less travelled, but we found it was still easy to follow.
Keep an eye out along the trail for the bird houses. If you’re lucky you might even spot birds hanging out with them! It turns out this trail can be a great place for bird watching.
